Work & Families Act 2006
04 December 2006

Currently an employee is entitled to 4 weeks paid leave per annum and this is pro-rata for part time staff. For example if someone works for 5 days a week for 52 weeks then the holiday entitlement of 4 weeks = 20 days. If someone works for 2 days a week for 52 weeks then their entitlement is 8 days (ie 2 fifths of 20 days).
Those 4 weeks can currently be inclusive of the 8 English bank and public holidays
It is probable that the minimum holiday entitlement will increase by 8 days – taking the entitlement for a full time worker (working 5 days a week x 52 weeks a year) to 28 days. This is an increase to the holiday wages bill of 40%.
It is probable that these additional 8 days will be phased in over 2 years with the first additional 4 days being brought in from October 2007 and the full 8 days from October 2008.
Further information is awaited.
